When it comes to OSAKA’s local food, TAKOYAKI and OKONOMIYAKI spring to mind. I want all travelers visiting OSAKA to eat these. These are rather snacks or fast food than cuisine and relatively reasonable. So it is easy to eat.
TAKOYAKI is a grilled dumpling made of wheat flour with octopus- a small piece of octopus is coated with batter of wheat flour. The size is like ping-pong ball. The dark brown sauce, which is made from vegetables such as tomato, apple, onion, carrot, some herbs and spices, is put on balls. – sometimes mayonnaise is added. In addition, green laver and dried bonito shavings are sprinkled. The inside is creamy and the texture of octopus is good.
TAKOYAKI is cooked in a special pan.
OKONOMIYAKI is a savory pancake, which is made of batter of wheat flour mixed with thin chopped cabbage. The main ingredient is seafood or sliced pork- some chefs add the other ingredients. It looks like pizza, but the texture is softer. The similar sauce to TAKOYAKI and mayonnaise are put on and green laver and dried bonito shavings are sprinkled.
There are restaurants and street stalls serving them. So you can easily eat them during sightseeing.
Anyway, those are yummy!!
